MP for Tottenham, David Lammy, is of firm belief that Tottenham Hotspur Football Club's mooted move to Olympic Park in 2012 would 'rip the heart and soul out of the community'.
Spurs are fighting with fellow Londoners West Ham United to move to the Stratford venue when the 2012 Olympic Games are over but Lammy feels it would be a bad move for Tottenham to move from White Hart Lane, their home of 111 years.
"Can it possibly be fair that Tottenham's legacy from the Olympics is for the largest private employer to be allowed by this government to depart?" Lammy said.
"The Olympics were meant to bring a unique experience to the doorsteps of ordinary Londoners.
"In N17, that experience will have a particularly bitter aftertaste should Spurs leave as a result.
"Never did I imagine our successful Olympic bid would mean that residents of Tottenham, and those of Enfield, Waltham Forest and the whole of the Upper Lea Valley would have the heart and soul ripped out of their communities.
"What kind of an Olympic legacy would that be?"
