Moyes admits Man Utd missed out on Chelsea midfielder Fabregas

David Moyes has revealed that Manchester United missed out on the signing of Cesc Fabregas.

Having succeeded the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson as United manager in the summer of 2013, Moyes attempted to bring a marquee player to Old Trafford during that transfer window and it was widely believed that the Scotsman had his eyes set on signing former Arsenal star Fabregas from Barcelona.

Fabregas ended up with Premier League rivals Chelsea and now Moyes has gone on to admit that the Red Devils missed out on the signing of the Spanish international despite holding advanced talks over the potential transfer.

Speaking to Sky Sports' Goals on Sunday, Moyes said: "We thought we were taking him to Manchester United. We spoke to him at the time, but unfortunately it didn't happen.

"Manchester United are always in for the top players, we were in for the top players at the time. They were in for the top players recently and they will be in for them again."
