Mourinho slams Man Utd for goal celebration

Jose Mourinho criticised his Manchester United players for celebrating after Juan Mata opened the scoring for them on Tuesday night.

The Spanish midfielder volleyed home from close range in the 56th minute of United's EFL Cup semi-final first leg against Hull City.

The Red Devils eventually netted a second goal, through Marouane Fellaini in the 87th minute, but Mourinho was not happy with his players for celebrating Mata's opener at such an important stage of a crucial match.

"We needed to play," he told Sky Sports.

"In cup ties every goal can be crucial so why celebrate when you have half an hour to play?

"I don't think we should, there is no reason to celebrate the first goal."

Nevertheless, United will head to the KCOM Stadium in a fortnight's time with a two-goal lead as they edge closer to another Wembley appearance.
