Chelsea are planning a January bid for Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva. The Daily Express says according to Spanish sources, Chelsea are keen to nullify Real Madrid's sustained interest by offering Silva a contract as early as January.
But Los Blancos have identified Silva as a replacement for the departing Sami Khedira, and may not allow themselves to be beaten by a club who already posses a surplus of box-to-box midfielders.
Manchester United were linked with a move for Silva during the summer, but after the arrival of Daley Blind, Angel Di Maria and Ander Herrera - a move seems unlikely.
Silva has been described as a 'complete' midfielder who is just as comfortable foiling attacks as he is carving defences apart, perhaps more comparable to Cesc Fabregas rather than 'Kaka.'
