More new faces for Derby after Scunthorpe draw

Derby played out a scoreless draw at Scunthorpe after which boss Nigel Clough admitted he hopes to have at least one more new face for his side's home game will Hull on Tuesday. The Rams gave full debuts to on-loan striker Jamie Ward from Sheffield United and centre-back Daniel Ayala from Liverpool.

"We are engaged in talks with Preston to bring striker Paul Hayes in on loan," Clough confirmed.

"Hopefully those negotiations can be completed in time for Tuesday.

"And we are also talking to another striker so maybe we can push the boat out and bring in two."

Clough is desperately looking to keep Derby out of relegation trouble after eight games without a win.

"I have been pleased with the last two away performances," he said.

"I thought you could see here at Scunthorpe today signs that we are beginning to turn the corner.

"I thought we shaded the game on what was a very difficult playing surface.

"Both teams like to get the ball down and play but struggle to do that.

"What we didn't get was the break we needed to try and get ourselves out of this run."

Scunthorpe remain in the bottom three and manager Ian Baraclough felt two key offside decisions denied his team three points.

"I have seen the DVD and both were perfectly good goals that should have been allowed to stand," he said.

"I have not yet been able to speak to the referee but I am very disappointed with the decisions that have gone against us."

Baraclough was much happier with the performance of his team.

"After beating Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night it was important we got something from this game," he said.

"That's two clean sheets on the trot we have kept and I really feel we are now moving in the right direction.

"The new players we had brought in are settling down quickly and bringing the best out of others around them.

"We might still be second bottom of the table, but it does not feel like that.

"There is a spirit and a buzz in the dressing room that the new players have brought.

"They are playing for each other, nobody wants to be left out of the team and I think our performances are beginning to get better and better."
