Mo Diame fears being squeezed out of Newcastle

Mo Diame fears he's being squeezed out of Newcastle United.

Diame, 31, needs to start two of the Toon's remaining three games to trigger an automatic 12 month extension.

He'd prefer a longer-term deal but accepts his Magpies' career could be drawing to a close.

“I'm trying to enjoy the games as much as I can because each could be the last one," said the Senegalese international, who will be in the squad for tomorrow evening's game at Brighton.

“I've always said that I am happy here playing for these fans but it is football and you have to deal with it.

“I spoke with the club and when we were talking about my contract, I asked for two years and they don't want that.

“Because we know what they want for this club and it is difficult to get an extension when you are over 30 here.

“If I get the opportunity to stay then I will stay, and if not, I will go and enjoy my football somewhere else."
