MLS Week 10 action saw LA Galaxy extend their lead in the West as second-year club Philadelphia Union moved to the top in the East. The Galaxy moved five points clear of last season's runners-up FC Dallas with a 1-0 away win over Los Angeles rivals Chivas USA courtesy of Chad Barrett's 26th minute goal as the Union beat Chicago Fire 2-1 at home to replace New York Red Bulls at the summit of the East.
The Red Bulls were lucky to score late at Houston Dynamo to force a 2-2 draw as Seattle Sounders also got a late goal to help them to a 1-0 home victory over Sporting Kansas City.
San Jose Earthquakes held off New England Revolution to win 2-1 at home with all three goals coming in a frantic final 20 minutes whilst Portland Timbers stretched their perfect home run to five wins from five games with a 1-0 result over Columbus Crew.
To wrap up the week's soccer, FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake played out a scoreless draw in Texas as did Colorado Rapids and Toronto FC in Commerce City.
