Marco Di Vaio has been named the MLS Player of the Week for Week 28 of the 2013 season.
The Italian striker scored a double for the Impact as they beat ten-man New England Revolution 4-2 at Gillette Stadium to narrowly retain top spot on the Eastern Conference table from New York Red Bulls and Sporting Kansas City.
Di Vaio gave the Impact a 3-1 lead on the stroke of half-time with a neat touch and finish for his 16th goal of the season after two earlier penalties from Patrice Bernier.
The Revs had been reduced to ten men when goalkeeper Matt Reis was given his marching orders for tripping Di Vaio in the fifth minute and it proved to be decisive as the Impact strode away to a three-goal lead when the former Juventus, Valencia and Bologna man struck again in the 55th minute.
The pair of goals sees Di Vaio sitting on 17 which puts him at the top of the MLS Golden Boot chart, two clear of Chicago Fire’s Mike Magee.
