MLS clubs allowed additional sponsorship opportunities

Major League Soccer (MLS) is looking to offset some of the losses resulting from the coronavirus pandemic by expanding commercial options for its franchises to include additional sponsorship inventory on playing shorts, according to the Washington Post, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.

The league's 26 teams have reportedly been cleared to negotiate deals in time for MLS's five week return tournamenton the Disney campus outside Orlando.

MLS reportedly wants to take advantage of being the first US men's team sport to return to action and having all 54 matches televised.

Franchises were previously only permitted one main shirt sponsor and an additional right sleeve sponsor on their playing kit. Only four teams secured sponsors for the right sleeve inventory, which was introduced this season, but could also now have the option of selling both. MLS is also reportedly looking at allowing teams to market positions on the left sleeve too.
