MLS chief Garber suggests second New York team a certainty

MLS Commissioner Don Garber has given the strongest indication yet that there will be a second team from New York in the competition.

As North America's domestic league prepares to welcome Montreal as its 19th franchise next year, Garber said that the reformed New York Cosmos are looking like certainties to enter the league in the coming seasons although he did make it clear that plans for a new stadium were still ongoing.

"We continue to talk to the city and try to move ahead for developing a plan for a new stadium in New York City. But it's hard,'' said Garber.

"How many press conferences have you guys attended for a new stadium for the MetroStars and Red Bulls. So it's going to be a process.

"I'm very confident in time we'll get there. I do believe that it's not an if, it's a when that we'll have a 20th team in New York, another team in New York, not necessarily the 20th team.''
