Missing 2008 Champions League final 'absolutely killed me' – Ex-Man Utd striker Saha

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha is haunted by the fact that he was unavailable for the 2008 Champions League final.

Saha was one of the finest strikers of his generation but a host of persistent injuries meant that the Frenchman missed out on a plethora of football during his prime years.

One of the many big occasions in which Saha could not participate was the UEFA Champions League final of '08 due to an injury and the striker has now stated that missing out on the final at Moscow crushed him.

Saha told the Manchester Evening News: "I was injured. I missed the 2006 World Cup final, I missed a few amazing games, but to miss this game absolutely killed me.

"Because the World Cup was before and I paid my misery, it was not fair to put me in this amazing scene and not to be part of it, so it was a really frustrating time and a week before arriving to a final, like this, on the training pitch you get injured again - and a very small injury - you don't understand, it was really hard."

On that night in May seven years ago, United defeated Chelsea 6-5 on penalties following a 1-1 draw to clinch their European Cup.
