Middlesbrough end interest in Sunderland defender Kilgallon

Middlesbrough have dropped their pursuit of Sunderland defender Matthew Kilgallon.

The People says Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan is shelving plans to sign centre-half Kilgallon from Sunderland - because of the player's back injury.

Kilgallon was set to join Boro on loan for a year but Strachan does not want to commit to a move that would cost £1million in wages.

Now the defender will try to get himself right at the Stadium of Light and find a club when the Championship window re-opens.
