Lionel Messi has moved intervene in Barcelona plans to sell Andre Gomes this summer.

The Portugal midfielder is set to be sold at the end of this season after describing his two years with Barca as "hell". In an interview this month, Gomes admitted he feared being seen in public because he felt he'd let down Barca with his struggling form.

A sale appears inevitable, though Messi has asked management to put the brakes on their plans.

Don Balon says Messi was unaware of Gomes' personal battles and believes the club should rally around his teammate and do what they can to help recover the player's form and confidence.

Messi accepts the final decision should be left to Gomes, but has told management the locker room will be right behind their teammate whatever is the final decision.
