Former British government minister and outspoken football pundit David Mellor is being linked with Dubai International Capital's takeover bid for Liverpool.
The Daily Mail says Mellor has emerged as one of the consultants in the stalled bid by DIC to buy a controlling stake in Liverpool.
The controversial Mellor has been one of the advisors to Amanda Staveley's PCP Capital Partners, who have been handling the tortuous takeover negotiations for DIC with American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
Mellor, a Fulham fan before changing allegiance to Chelsea, had a controversial stint as host of Five Live's 606 phone-in show.
