Melbourne Heart’s Sarkies desperate to take on old teammates

Melbourne Heart midfielder Kristian Sarkies is hoping he can get out on the park for tomorrow night’s second Melbourne derby against his old club the Victory.

Sarkies made his A-League return, and Heart debut, on Wednesday in the disappointing 2-0 home loss to Newcastle Jets, coming on as a half-time substitute.

He missed the previous 10 months of action after breaking his leg in two places in February but is keen to grace the AAMI Park turf against his old mates.

"I'd love that for sure," he said yesterday.

"I've still got some good mates there and it would be great to play against them.

"But I wouldn't have a clue (about selection). We'll find out tomorrow or the next day and I'm not going to put all my eggs in one basket."

Sarkies’ plans, however, may be thwarted by the fact that Heart’s regular midfielders Wayne Srhoj and Josip Skoko could be back on deck. Srhoj will certainly play after serving a suspension whilst Skoko is touch-and-go as he battles injury.
