Pepe Mel has revealed why West Bromwich Albion were so determined to appoint a foreign coach.
West Brom initially held talks with Mel in the wake of sacking Steve Clarke last month but the Spaniard insisted on bringing in his own backroom staff.
Mel has now agreed to work with assistant head coach Keith Downing and goalkeeper coach Dean Kiely and aims to make the most of his opportunity.
"I always hoped to taste the Premier League," Mel told a radio station in his homeland. "It has always attracted me. I want to enjoy the Premier League.
"West Brom want a Spanish model coach and I hope to show them that they were not wrong. As a player I wasn't good enough to come here, now I want to earn the right as a coach."
