McLeish: Slow Birmingham start cost them dear at Wolves

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish admitted his side were slow out of the blocks against Wolves which ended in a 1-0 win for their midlands rivals. He told the club's official web site: "We were poor for an hour and never really got going. To lose a goal right on the stroke of half-time was unprofessional and ended up costing us.

"We knew that Wolves had one or two selection problems so we came here with the formation and the tactics to get at them but we also knew that they would come at us as the home side and I think you have to give Mick McCarthy and his men a lot of credit for the way they played.

"I saw them beat Manchester City - who are second in the Barclays Premier League - recently so once again it just shows how tight the division is and how anyone can beat anyone on their day.

"From our point of view though what we didn't do is get enough service in to the strikers. They thrive on service and we didn't deliver one cross to them today and we can't expect them to score goals if we don't create the chances." Keeper Ben Foster produced another inspired performance between the sticks and really is a man on top of his game.

McLeish added: "Foster produced some good saves for us today, once again showing how reliable and consistent he is.

"I wouldn't say they were world class saves today - even though we all know he is well capable of those too - but they were important and he is in excellent form."
