McLeish eager to shape Aston Villa in his mould

Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish wants to shape his new team in his mould.

McLeish is looking to create a side full of character and hopes to do this by imparting his own personality - that of honesty, integrity and sincerity - on the team.

He told Villa's website: "I've got to impart my personality on the team - the spirit and the character.

"I can see that character in a lot of the guys that are already there. Richard Dunne and James Collins are seasoned pros. They should be the guys that are really leading the way.

"It's vitally important that these guys help the young ones. I'll speak to the boys when we get them back.

"I want to communicate to them through individual meetings or group meetings. I won't bombard them, but just to get the right focus for the new season.

"I want my players to be straight up and honest and give everything they can for the football club and for themselves.

"We'll work hard on training pre-season to try and click and make sure we hit the ground running, but everybody wants to do that. I certainly know that the scrutiny will be on me."
