McFadden: Kids putting pressure on senior Everton players

Everton attacker James McFadden says the young players coming through are adding spice to the competition for first team places.

Jack Rodwell became the youngest player to represent the Club in European competition during Thursday's victory over AZ Alkmaar.

Icelandic Under-21 international Bjarni Vidarsson joined Rodwell in making his senior Everton debut.

McFadden told evertonTV: "Bjarni and Jack get a game and that was pleasing to see.

"They didn't look out of place, Bjarni runs all day and that's what he did when he came on, and Jack showed some good touches and I'm really pleased for both of them.

"I'm 24 now and I'm getting on a bit, but its nice to see young players coming through and that's what clubs like Everton need - even though you bring players in, you need a couple of players that break through the academy.

"Vaughany seems to score every time he plays and it was a great finish from him. I told him before the game that he would score, and he did!

"It's nice and it's good to be involved, and it's nice to see the younger players get involved in the Uefa Cup as well."
