Jobi McAnuff feels that the Reading side needs to play with a bit more consistency following the weeken's loss to Liverpool.
The Royals were lucky not to be more than a goal down at the break at Anfield with Raheem Sterling's effort the only one of many chances which breached the visiting defence.
Reading got themselves back into the contest in the second half but in the end it wasn't enough to get anything from the game with McAnuff of the belief that there needs to be more substance from Brian McDermott's players.
"In the second half we gave it a bit of a go but in the first half we were nowhere near it," he told The Sun.
"We can't expect to win games in this league against teams like this on the back of 45 minutes of decent play.
"In the second half we showed we can compete and there's enough there for us to remain positive. It's just about putting a whole performance together."
