McAllister insists Villa not giving up on Man Utd, Liverpool target Young

Aston Villa No2 Gary McAllister insists Ashley Young could still stay.

The winger is a major target for Manchester United and Liverpool.

McAllister says that both he and Gerard Houllier have not given up hope that a deal may be struck with the player.

"I don't think it's inevitable that he will go,' said McAllister, 'we will do everything we can to keep him here.

"He has become an England player, while playing for this club. His partnership with Darren Bent has looked exciting for Fabio Capello, I'm sure of that.

"And we are not silly. We have to be realistic. We can't give him Champions League football at the moment. But it's a goal of ours.

"I can understand the lure of playing in that competition. I managed to get a touch of it as a balding old man and it is a great experience.

"But if you move it's difficult. When you move and go to other clubs - I'm talking about the top four or five - then the microscope becomes even greater.

"Some people can't deal with it. The grass may not be greener."
