Massadio Haidara was delighted to make a full Newcastle United debut in their draw at West Bromwich Albion.
With Italian international Davide Santon sidelined with a hamstring injury, Haidara is determined to grasp his opportunity.
"It was a pleasure and an honour to make my first Premier League start," he told nufc.co.uk.
"We could have won the game because we had a lot of opportunities but it is a good point which we can be happy with.
"The most important thing for us is to stay in the Premier League, and we are getting closer to achieving that. This point could be a big one in us staying up.
"I was pleased with how I did and pleased with the result for the team. I hope I will play in the final four games of the season as well.
"With Davide's injury there is definitely a position there for me to fill, but I must show that I am worthy of it.
"I have to go out there and give the best performances I can when I am called upon."
