Everton boss Roberto Martinez has been defending John Stones, who was criticised for his defensive display in the weekend defeat to Swansea.

"John is 21. He has played 68 games in the Premier league. Never assess a player till they have 100 starts, then you can judge them," explained the Spaniard.

"He has incredible potential but he is still a young man. "Whatever the judgement from the outside, we accept it, that is part of the game, but I think Stones is in the right pace to fulfil is potential and become one of the greatest players England has ever seen."
