Martinez looks for answer after Everton brushed aside by Swansea in league cup

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is searching for answers after his side were beaten 3-0 by Swansea City in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

The Toffees lost for the third time in five matches when Nathan Dyer, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Marvin Emnes netted at the Liberty Stadium to make it 17 goals conceded in seven outings in all competitions this season.

After the disappointing loss, Martinez spoke of his side's subpar performance as he ponders how he can get the Toffees firing again.

However, it wasn't all doom and gloom for Everton after Martinez handed starts to the likes of Luke Garbutt, Bryan Oviedo (who was returning from a broken leg) and Muhamed Besic.

"I'm disappointed in the result but not the night. Some individual performances were pleasing," Martinez told the club's official website.

"The scoreline reflects that Swansea were clinical, and we weren't.

"Having made eight changes, I thought we played well. We gained a lot of information about our players.

"You don't want the feeling of losing football games. We need to address everything as a team."

Of summer signing Besic, Martinez added: "I was really pleased with Mo Besic. I thought he did very well."

Everton will get the chance to bounce back to winning ways when they make the short trip to Anfield for the Merseyside derby with Liverpool on Saturday.
