Martinez chuffed by 'incredible' Everton support

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has thanked his clubs brilliant supporters in the wake of Thursday's 0-0 Europa League draw with Lille.

The Toffees held the French side at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in their third Group H fixture but not before there was trouble in the city of Lille involving supporters of the English club.

A group of around 50 Everton fans were attacked in a bar on Wednesday night prior to the clash which saw around 5,500 Toffees attend the stadium to watch their side.

In the wake of the incident and the match itself, Martinez was full of praise for the Evertonians who showed amazing support once again for the Goodison Park club.

"I can only speak from my point of view and the first thing I feel is immense pride and an incredible feeling of seeing what we are as a football club," he said.

"The support doesn't stop amazing me day to day - it is incredible.

"I have seen full families coming across, some without tickets just wanting to be near the hotel and wish the players well.

"It really meant something for thousands of them, and you keep getting closer to understanding what the Evertonians deserve.

"I would say this will be an incredible memory and that we will be talking about this trip for a long time.

"It gives even more strength to everyone at the club to keep fighting, making sure Everton can carry on progressing and keep having nights like this and success.

"The support we have is quite unique around Europe."

Everton currently sit top of their group with five points from three matches which has included a 4-1 win over Wolfsburg and a 1-1 draw with Kuban Krasnodar.
