Marseille president Longoria: Arsenal fullback Tavares matches our game perfectly

Olympique Marseille president Pablo Longoria has welcomed new signing Nuno Tavares.

The Portugal U21 fullback has moved to OM in a straight season-long loan.

Longoria said today: “We did not hesitate to recover Nuno Tavares. He is very physical, he matches perfectly with what we were looking for in this position. In the defensive phase, he is very good. I have always seen Tavares as a player for the future as a left-back. I am very happy that he is with us."

Tavares also said: “It was not difficult to come to OM. I gave my answer quickly. There were problems between the clubs but for me it was OK. I saw last season, OM finished second and I'm happy to be there."

The defender also stated: “Yes, of course, I followed (William) Saliba and (Matteo) Guendouzi at OM... That obviously played into my choice. I will try to do the same or even better to help the team and fulfill the objectives.

"It is one of my objectives to be in the Portuguese national team. I dream of competing in a World Cup, that's also why I'm here. I have to fight to play, to have my place. I know that it is not because I come from Arsenal that I will start."
