Olympique Marseille midfielder Kevin Strootman is delighted to join Genoa on-loan.

The former Roma midfielder will have his medical on Wedneday

“I am very happy to be back in Italy. I enjoyed my five years here, I went to France, but I jumped at this opportunity," Strootman told Sky Sport Italia.

“I was in a situation that was not good for me, as I have not played very many games this season. I spoke to my family, we wanted to come back to Italy."

Cagliari had reportedly also been interested in Strootman, but Genoa got there first.

“Genoa were interested from the start and did everything to bring me here, so that made me choose them. I want to help the team and hope to bring some experience to the side.

“I watched their most recent game, they have some very good players. It's a pity the fans can't come to the stadium, but hopefully we'll see them in the stands as soon as possible."
