Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been boosted by news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be back earlier than expected after knee surgery.

The Norwegian striker was forced out of his country's Euro 2008 back-to-back qualifiers this month after having trouble with his knee.

But a clean up op has put the 34-year-old back on track to start pre-season training with the Reds senior squad next month.
