Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney admits his sending off for England in the 2006 World Cup still burns.
Rooney said: "It was not what I would have wished for. I was disappointed with the way it ended.
"I worked really hard to get there and to get sent off and knocked out in that game was disappointing."
But Rooney feels he is now better equipped to handle the pressures of tournament football after United's three consecutive triumphs in the Premier League plus tasting victory and defeat in the last two Champions League Finals.
He said: "I've matured a lot since the last World Cup as a player and hopefully it will be better this time."
