Manchester United are ready to keep the No7 vacant for Antoine Griezmann.
The Sunday Mirror says Griezmann has been promised the No.7 shirt if he completes his expected £70million switch to Manchester United.
The 25-year-old is a boyhood Man United fan and is big friends with their £89million world-record signing Paul Pogba, a French international team-mate.
Griezmann grew up idolising David Beckham, and with Memphis Depay's departure to French side Lyon this week the famous number seven shirt — worn with far greater distinction at Old Trafford by Beckham, George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo — is available.
United are thought to be prepared to meet the release clause of a player who finished third in the Ballon d'Or voting after inspiring France and Atleti to cup finals last year.
