England manager Roy Hodgson has hinted that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere could be his first choice in a deep-lying midfield role at next year's Euro2016.
Hodgson is a big fan of Wilshere but is eager to give Manchester United veteran Michael Carrick one last chance in the upcoming qualifiers to help re-ignite his England career in the absence of the Gunners youngster.
"In the absence of Jack I'd like to see Michael doing the job," said Hodgson.
"We believe he can. We would like to see him play, which is why I didn't ask him to train today."
