Manchester United made a world record offer for Neymar last summer according to the player's father.

It is believed that a club came in with a £145million offer to meet Neymar Jnr's Barcelona release clause at the beginning of the current season and that club has been identified as United.

Neymar Snr told Cadena COPE that it was indeed the Red Devils who attempted to lure the 23-year-old Brazilian away from Camp Nou.

"Manchester United is the side that offered €190m for Neymar," he said.

"He has still two years left on his contract but you can all be calm as my son is so happy here."

Brazil international Neymar joined Barcelona from Santos in 2013 and has since become one of the world's top few players.
