Man Utd striker Rashford reveals Macheda, Morrison an inspiration

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford admits he grew up idolising Federico Macheda.

Speaking in an interview with GQ, Rashford has revealed the inspirations he had growing up at United.

He said, “I think seeing other academy players starting in the first team. When I was younger there was [Federico] Macheda, Danny Welbeck, Ravel [Morrison], [Paul] Pogba, Jesse [Lingard] – so they were getting in and around the first team.

“I was about 14 or 15 at the time and being around those type of players that were in the first team at the time, that made me understand how realistic it was.

“When you're younger, you have this dream of becoming a top, top player, and mine was always to be at United. You get to 12, 13 a lot of your friends start to go to different places, you start getting cut off. You start to… not doubt yourself, but understand how difficult a dream it is. Then when I saw them start playing and being involved, it kind of made me refocus and step on again. That's what it is, coming into the first team, now, for me – that's what I want to be for the younger ones. For them to see how possible it is."
