Man Utd skipper Neville set for surprise England recall

Manchester United captain Gary Neville is in line for a surprise England recall.

The Mail on Sunday says Neville is being considered for his first England appearance in nearly three years against Brazil later this month.

England manager Fabio Capello is looking at Neville and United team-mate Wes Brown to fill the problem right-back position if first-choice Glen Johnson of Liverpool fails to recover from injury in time for the friendly in Doha on November 14.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson isn't surprised that Neville is under consideration.

He said: "I am not surprised at all. He [Capello] has not got great options at right-back. Gary offers experience and his quality has not been diminished.

"His performance level has been very good when he's come into the team. He has not lost momentum, rhythm or energy.

"He has had a hard time in the last three years with injuries. He has survived because he is Gary Neville. He has a great desire to carry on."
