Man Utd's Valencia: We may have won the title without van Persie

Antonio Valencia says that Manchester United's determination to win the Premier League title this season was so strong that they may have even clinched without Robin van Persie.

The Dutch striker has scored 25 league goals for United after moving from Arsenal last summer, helping the Red Devils to their 20th English title.

But Valencia suggests that losing the title on goal difference on the final day to neighbours Manchester City last season would have been enough for United to bounce back to the winners dais.

"Destiny is a funny thing," Valencia told reporters.

"We had so much determination at the start of the season because we wanted to make up for last year and win the title. So whilst you can't doubt what Robin has added, we may have done it without him.

"But Robin has great ability, huge skill levels and can solve almost any problem he comes up against. As a winger it is a joy to play and work alongside him."
