Manchester United are expected to recall Rio Ferdinand from the England World Cup camp.

The Manchester Evening News says while the injured England skipper will remain with the squad at least until their World Cup opener against the United States on Saturday, the need to make sure the centre-back is ready for the new season may ensure he watches the closing stages of the tournament on his living room TV.

Coach Fabio Capello is keen for Ferdinand to stay but United will hope to have him fit for their North American tour next month.
