Man Utd ready to try again for Tottenham's Berbatov

Manchester United are ready to step up efforts to sign Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov next week.

United hope Tottenham's bid to bring in new strikers will lead to Berbatov's move to Old Trafford. Spurs want Russians Andrei Arshavin and Roman Pavlyuchenko.

And Spurs hope to balance the books by selling the Bulgarian striker, 27, to United.

But boss Sir Alex Ferguson does not want to pay more than £28million for former Bayer Leverkusen man Berba.
