Manchester United are planning a bid for Roma striker Mirko Vucinic.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long-term admirer of Vucinic, who is aware of fresh interest from the Premiership champs.

Rome sources this morning say coach Luciano Spalletti knows he must sell one of his major players this summer and has insisted defensive pair Juan and Philippe Mexes are off limits.

Vucinic could leave for United for around £20 million and is keen to see the move happen.
