Manchester United have registered their interest with Benfica in left-back Fabio Coentrao.
The Portugal international is wanted by several European giants, including Liverpool and Manchester City, who see him as a replacement for Wayne Bridge.
Lisbon sources say United have also been in touch.
Benfica insiders do not expect any serious move from United unless Patrice Evra pushes to be sold at the end of the season.
