Manchester United would prefer to keep Anthony Martial at the club this summer.
The Frenchman was shipped out on loan to Sevilla last month.
However, no purchase clause was included in his short-term loan deal.
The Daily Mail says that is because United have not given up on the 26-year-old succeeding at Old Trafford.
Martial fell out of favour with interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
But it is believed the Red Devils want to give their new permanent manager a chance to assess Martial.
