Man Utd plan big name centre-half signing

Manchester United are prepared to spend big on a new centre-half in the coming transfer windows.

The Athletic reports United will target a new centre-back next summer and Dayot Upamecano, Raphael Varane and Kalidou Koulibaly are all on their shortlist.

The transfer window came to a close earlier this week and United secured four signings on deadline day, though none of them were a centre-back.

Calls for the club to strengthen their back-line intensified following last weekend's 6-1 loss to Tottenham, with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly all having poor starts to the season.

United will wait until next summer before bringing in a new centre-back, in order to avoid the extra premium that the January window tends to bring.

When they do, however, RB Leipzig's Upamecano, Varane of Real Madrid and Napoli's Koulibaly will be their targets, though signing any of the trio would require Champions League qualification.
