Manchester United will target Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves should they miss out on Frenkie De Jong.
United's back-and-forth with Barcelona over De Jong has continued all summer, and the Premier League club are assessing alternatives.
According to Sky Sports, Neves would be next in line if United fail to sign Erik ten Hag's top targets.
The 25-year-old, who has made 212 appearances for Wolves, has been at Molineux for five years since he joined from Porto in 2017.
Wolves currently rate Neves, who has won 30 caps for Portugal, at around £60m.
The move for Neves could be accelerated after August 13.
That is the deadline for Barcelona to register their new signings for LaLiga, which they are currently unable to do due to salary cap breaches.
Offloading De Jong's enormous salary would likely allow Barca to register new signings such as Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.
