Manchester United are prepared to put Matteo Darmian and Chris Smalling on the table in talks for Inter Milan attacker Ivan Perisic.

The Mirror says, however, manager Jose Mourinho has ­rejected Inter's move to take Anthony Martial in a straight swap for Croatian star Perisic.

Inter boss Luciano Spalletti is prepared to let 28-year-old, £47million-rated Perisic leave the San Siro but he wanted to get United's £58m striker Martial in return.

That was a non-starter, with United officials seeing 21-year-old France international Martial as a future star.

But Mourinho will allow Italian international right-back Darmian and England centre- back Smalling to join Inter in a swap deal.
