David Moyes now sees the day he sacked by Manchester United as a sad memory.
The Scottish tactician had his six-year contract with the Red Devils torn up in April last year, less than 10 months after arriving from Everton.
Moyes' last game in charge of United was a defeat at the hands of the Toffees at Goodison Park and ahead of this weekend's meeting between the two clubs, Moyes recalled the moment when his Old Trafford career came to an abrupt halt.
"I have thought about it, of course, it was a disappointing day for me as Manchester United manager," he told The Express.
"Going back to your old team and losing. My memories of the game are we made two really poor mistakes for the goals and Everton did what they had to do but, although other people will disagree, I thought we played quite well. But that bit doesn't really matter at Manchester United.
"The job was to win and you have to win games. We had to win games and whether I thought I had played well and we lost, in truth, it didn't really matter.
"It is now something that is a sad memory but it is also part of your development as a football manager. There are lots of managers who have had to lose their jobs and find a way back."
