Man Utd No2 Queiroz: Real Madrid could've signed Pepe on cheap

Manchester United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz has revealed how Real Madrid could have previously signed Pepe for chump change.

The defender joined Real from Porto for £20 million last week and former Madrid coach Queiroz revealed: "In 2003, I advised [president] Florentino Perez and [sports director] Jorge Valdano to sign Pepe, who was only 20 and playing for Maritimo.

"They told me that defenders didn't sell shirts.

"A few days later Porto signed him for £1.4 million."
