Manchester United have hit back at Sporting Lisbon after being accused of trying to unsettle Miguel Veloso.

United's assistant manager, Carlos Queiroz, confirmed the 21-year-old midfielder is on their wish list. Sporting president Filipe Soares Franco said: "I can only regret Queiroz's declaration about Veloso. Queiroz made unacceptable insinuations."

Queiroz said: "The club president is just trying to deflect away criticism of his team after we beat them."
