Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar is a big fan of Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Howard and Van der Sar competed for the goalkeeper's position at Old Trafford during the 2005/06 campaign before the American moved to Everton, initially on a season-long loan deal.

'In my first year at Manchester United, I worked and played with Tim," Van der Sar told "At that point he was still very young and he was disappointed that I came in and played so many matches.

"After that he got a great move to Everton and has performed at a steady level.

"He is able to pull off miraculous saves, is flexible and is always up and about and quick on his feet.

"I'm sure he is going to be there for many more years and I'm sure the fans are happy with him."
