Manchester United legend Peter Schmiechel says Manuel Neuer, and not David De Gea, is his favourite goalkeeper.

De Gea put in a man-of-the-match performance for United in their stalemate with Liverpool on Saturday.

Schmiechel was goaded into answering who he thought was the best goalkeeper in the world, but he refused to provide an answer and instead told Sky Sports' Monday Night Football that the Bayern Number No. 1 was his top-choice because of his style.

"I get asked this question all the time, 'who's the best in the world?'," the Manchester United hero said on Sky Sports.

"My favourite goalkeeper in the world at the moment is Manuel Neuer. It has been for a long, long time.

"That's because of the style of goalkeeping he gives to the world.

"He's a brave young lad, he was a brave young lad."
