Man Utd legend Beckham: World Cup bid failure makes me sick. They lied to my face

LA Galaxy star David Beckham admits the manner of England's World Cup bid failure leaves him feeling sick.

Just hours after Mohamed bin Hammam - president of the Asian Football Federation and a Qatari administrator - was banned from football for life for attempting to buy votes ahead of last month's FIFA presidential election, Beckham was training with LA Galaxy in California before yesterday's friendly with Manchester City.

Talking to English journalists, the former England captain and Manchester United star addressed many topics but by far the most telling was his reference to the World Cup bid.

Beckham said: "There is obviously something wrong when you look at the investigations since the vote and some of the things that have come out.

"At the time you don't suspect there is something wrong. When people tell you to your face that you have got their vote, you want to believe them. Then the vote happened and, yeah, you start to think, 'This is a little bit weird'."

"It just felt unfair. Nothing against the countries who have got the bids. So the situation we see now leaves a sick feeling in your mouth."
