Man Utd identify THREE big defensive transfer targets

Manchester United are in the hunt for new defensive signings. The Daily Star says Old Trafford chiefs last night ended their pursuit of Nathaniel Clyne, leaving Liverpool in the clear to get him.

But work is already underway on searching for new targets with a deal for Clyne now off.

United are expected to turn their interest to Paris St-Germain's Dutch full-back Gregory van der Wiel and Barcelona's Dani Alves.

And the Red Devils are also interested in bringing Bayern Munich defender Dante to Old Trafford - although are not in a rush to conclude the deal.

They have yet to bid for the 31-year-old despite speculation in Germany they have made a "concrete offer" for the Brazilian.

Louis van Gaal is keen to land a proven centre-back this summer.
